OUR MISSION

Our Story

Compass Correctional Navigation was created from personal experience. The founder and his wife both entered the correctional system one day apart, leaving their family with very little understanding of what would happen next or how the correctional process worked. That experience revealed a significant information gap for individuals preparing for incarceration and the families supporting them. Compass was created to bridge that gap.

We’ve Been Where You Are

My journey into correctional navigation didn’t begin in a classroom or from the outside looking in. It began through personal experience.

Before entering the correctional system, my wife and I were working professionals living ordinary lives. Neither of us had a prior criminal record. We had never experienced the criminal justice or correctional system firsthand—not even something as routine as a speeding ticket.

Then, almost overnight, everything changed.

My wife and I entered the correctional system just one day apart, and suddenly we found ourselves trying to navigate a world that was completely unfamiliar to us.

We didn’t know what would happen next.

We had so many questions:

The Impact Goes Beyond One Person

We quickly discovered that when someone enters the correctional system, the impact extends far beyond that individual. Families are left trying to understand unfamiliar rules, procedures, terminology, communication systems, visitation requirements, financial accounts, and countless other details—often while dealing with fear, separation, and tremendous uncertainty.

And finding clear, practical information can be incredibly difficult.

Why Compass Exists

That experience became the reason Compass Correctional Navigation exists. We help individuals and families understand the road ahead before they are forced to figure it out on their own.

Compass helps clients better understand:

Through practical education, preparation, and personalized consultative support, Compass helps clients better understand the Georgia correctional process—from preparing to report, intake and diagnostics, classification and facility assignment to communication, visitation, financial accounts, daily life, and eventually reentry.

“We cannot change the circumstances that brought you here. But we can help change how prepared you are to face them.”

Because when you understand what may happen next, what questions to ask, what your family needs to know, and how to prepare, uncertainty can begin to give way to clarity.
What began as one of the most difficult and unfamiliar chapters of our own lives has become a greater purpose:

Making sure others don’t have to navigate this journey without a Compass.
